COVID BEST OR WORST THING FOR US? (AS INDIVIDUALS)

I don’t know about you guys, but COVID-19 has been the best thing that’s happened to me in a long time. But I am well aware that quarantine and businesses being shutdown has been the worst thing ever for many others. But also the schools have been shut down or shifted to online-only platforms.

I was about halfway through my final college semester when Quarantine was put in place. College was shifted to being online only which for me was wonderful. My program was already hard to justify physically going to class and now all I had to do was lame zoom video chat classes. It saved so much time on commuting that it made it easier justifying doing such useless homework. But once school finished I had big plans to start my gaming live stream, begin working on Youtube videos and do more work here on my website. But there was more, I knew that there were two options. Take the loads of spare time I have in quarantine to do something productive that I actually care for, or take a boring and useless vacation.

If you are currently using your time to binge watch TV, eat junk food, browse the internet, sleep in, or even play video games. You are wasting your life. Sales of alcohol and marijuana have gone up since quarantine. From what I hear people are bored and according to social media posts, they are watching a lot of TV/Netflix and eating a lot of junk food. Do not be one of these people. If you fall under this category you are probably not reading this. People all too often see a paragraph of text and run for the hills. We’ve become lazy and undisciplined.

If your quarantined life looks similar to what I just described then I have bad news for you. Many of you may develop bad habits or possibly even addictions to substances or your own laziness. Resulting in you watching more TV in the future and maybe not wanting to make yourself a good meal. The potential for you to develop bad habits is higher than ever and it can lead you into a rut that you’ll have to actively work at every day to get out of in order to break those habits.

You know all those New Year resolutions you make each year and probably do for a week and then never think about again? Why not use this time to do those? Wake up at whatever time you usually would for a workday, but instead of going to work since we’re in quarantine, make yourself a healthy meal, workout, read. Take up a hobby that doesn’t rely on other people, or paying money. Something that challenges you mentally or is productive in some way. Don’t just consume content, but create something. There is something wonderful about creating something on your own, with your own hands (or keyboard & mouse).

I just ask that you stop wasting your life, consuming someone else’s hard work that you’d begin to work hard yourself. If you don’t, then relaxing in front of the TV won’t just be a thing you do when you’re tired, it’ll be a habit that consumes every hour of your life outside of your required job.

I’m very happy to say that I’ve been taking almost every waking moment of my day to strive for all the things I’ve dreamed of doing. Starting my Twitch Stream, Youtube Channel, Writing more. I have two homemade board games in the works, two books in the works. I now workout each morning and read my Bible. I don’t snack on cookies throughout the day, instead, I make myself healthy meals.

This quarantine could be a horrible thing for you. Show a sliver of discipline and make it the best thing you ever did for yourself.

Unless you’re a business owner in which case…. Good luck.
