The company behind some of the biggest game series such as Elderscrolls, DOOM, Fallout, and more was just acquired by Xbox. Bethesda was purchased for $7.5 billion.

“This is really a move to show the strong commitment to the Xbox Community,” says Executive Vice President of Gaming at Microsoft, Phill Spencer on an early morning interview with Bloomberg. Phill Spencer also mentioned that this doesn’t mean all games will be Xbox and PC exclusives only, He mentioned that they will decide on a case by case basis on whether or not games may be released for other platforms as well, like Playstation or Nintendo’s Switch.

Spencer also mentioned that this also almost doubles the number of game development studios that will be making games for PC, Xbox, and will significantly grow the number of big-budget games on their Game Pass service. He continues to put emphasis on how much this will benefit consumers by mentioning that this is the best way to put as many games in the hands of consumers on as many devices as they want, thanks to the new Xcloud game streaming platform Xbox offers as a part of Game Pass Ultimate, allowing players to stream games to their phone, tablets, computers and more without ever needing to own an Xbox or high-end gaming PC.

Finally, Game Pass has reached 15 million subscribers and this is only more incentive for people to want to join Game Pass as the library grows, only giving it a better value. This not only means that Xbox will have more content than ever before but perhaps under Xbox Bethesda studios may be more open to creating new original games and be held to a higher standard, shaking that reputation Bethesda has with releasing unfinished games that often have too many issues at launch.
